Sophia is now at four and a half months! We can hardly believe it. As you can see from the many photos, we just returned from a fantastic trip to California. It was a big trip and Sophia got to fly on her first plane, meet her west coast family including her namesake (great grandma Sophia), travel to Tahoe and visit San Francisco. She seemed to enjoy dipping her toes into chilly Lake Tahoe and was excited to cross the Golden Gate Bridge. Mike was of course pleased to see Sophia take a liking to California. She is beginning to be interested in objects now and is actively reaching for toys. Two weeks ago she figured out how to “thunder clap”. This is essentially when she is lying on her back and simultaneously brings both of her hands above her to reach for a dangling object or toy. She wasn’t too coordinated in doing this until just recently. Now she has her thunder clapping down! Just last week she became interested in those objects that mommy and daddy put to their mouths. She is particularly fond of shiny cylindrical objects with the words “Diet Coke” running on the side. She is of course, her daddy’s little girl. Solid foods here we come! While on the trip, she found her toes and now enjoys doing “Happy Baby” all the time. (Happy Baby is the yoga position where you grab your toes while lying on your back. See photo) We're waiting for the day for her to roll over. It is yet to be determined if she will do front-to-back or back-to-front first. When doing tummy time, she has figured out that if she scrunches her legs up to her chest she can inch her way closer to a toy. Mike has appropriately named this move "the inchworm". She is certainly giggling now too. She squeals in delight when we gently bounce her back and forth on the bed. Her hair is starting to come in on the top- looks like she may be a blond, perhaps even a strawberry blond… we’ll see.
